A New International Exchange Agreement with the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences Faculty of Nursing
Japanese version is here.
May 2026 marked the start of an agreement and memorandum of understanding on student exchange with the Faculty of Nursing at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This agreement—made possible through the leadership of the School of Health Sciences—aims to strengthen the School’s educational and research collaboration and to further advance its international engagement. It marks a significant step in building a foundation for global exchange within the School, and we look forward to the continued expansion of student, faculty, and researcher exchanges as well as the development of joint research initiatives in the years ahead.
About the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences
Founded in 1942, MNUMS has been Mongolia’s only nationally chartered comprehensive medical university, responsible for training professionals in medicine and health care. The seven faculties of MNUMS include Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing, as well as a graduate school, multiple research institutes, and more than 10 affiliated hospitals, with a student body of over 16,000. The Faculty of Nursing includes Departments of Nursing, Midwifery, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy, thus playing diverse and essential roles in health care education.
History of Exchange
Since 2023, the FMU’s Departments of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy have been conducting joint research with MNUMS on functional abilities of the elderly and the prevention of frailty. Through field surveys in Ulaanbaatar and Mandalgovi, joint presentations at international conferences, and the co-hosting of international symposia, we have steadily and continuously deepened exchanges between researchers. Students from both universities have participated in these activities. Since these international exchanges have fostered research with positive clinical impact, we have entered into this agreement to ensure that the trust and achievements built thus far develop into systematic and continuous international collaboration.
Future Outlook
We anticipate that student and faculty exchanges will foster the development of healthcare professionals capable of local service with global impact, who will bring new academic insights in education and research.
FMU will continue to promote international collaboration with overseas universities and research institutions, contributing to the advancement of healthcare not only in Fukushima Prefecture but throughout the world.
