Message from the Director of the Center for Health Promotion

Extension of healthy life expectancy and reduction of health disparities through evidence-based evaluation and analysis
Our Center serves as a think tank for health promotion and disease prevention, supporting the implementation of initiatives aligned with the core objectives of the Health Fukushima 21(third term), which aims to extend healthy life expectancy and reduce health inequalities across the prefecture.
One of our key roles is the scientific analysis of a wide range of health-related data, including medical claims, specific health checkup results, and long-term care records, all stored in the Fukushima Health Database (FDB). We also analyze the incidence of stroke and acute myocardial infarction. Based on these analyses, we identify and visualize critical health issues, providing evidence-based recommendations and support to prefectural and municipal governments in their development of public health policies and initiatives.
Another important aspect of our work is the training and professional development of health personnel such as public health nurses and dietitians. We also work closely with the Fukushima Prefectural Government to ensure the recruitment, training, and retention of public health physicians who are vital to our community's health.
In addition, we engage in public awareness activities to promote the importance of health and healthy living among Fukushima residents. We also support special initiatives in the ten municipalities affected by the disaster: Minamisoma City, Hirono Town, Naraha Town, Tomioka Town, Okuma Town, Futaba Town, Namie Town, Kawauchi Village, Katsurao Village, and Iitate Village.
Through these comprehensive efforts, we strive to prevent diseases and contribute to the long-term health and well-being of the people of Fukushima.

At the Health Promotion Center, we create annual reports on the state of medical care and health check results using the FDB and plan to continue creating other reports based on the data accumulated in the FDB. In terms of supporting the development and training of human resources, in addition to holding training sessions for specialists in social medicine, we also hold various training sessions several times a year for professionals in health-related fields working for the prefecture and municipalities. Through a health promotion event called the "Iki-Iki Kenko-zukuri Forum" and online video content on health issues in Fukushima Prefecture, we encourage prefectural residents to improve their lifestyle and promote their health.
