当科では、医学部の学生教育はもちろん、研修医、専攻医の教育にも力を入れています。専攻医募集
福島県立医科大学消化管外科学講座は共に働く専攻医の皆様を盛大に募集しています。当科は福島県内全体に多くの関連病院を持ち、外科手術治療から地域医療まで幅広い経験を積むことが可能です。
地方大学の教室としては比較的豊富な症例があり、当院外科部門各科と協力して外科専門医、消化器外科専門医の取得を最短で達成できるプログラムを確立しており、責任を持って指導できる体制を整えております
手術に関しては、現在、内視鏡外科の技術認定医を6人、ロボット支援手術プロクター2人を有し、内視鏡手術・ロボット手術をメインテーマとして新規技術を積極的に導入しております。
内視鏡技術認定医の取得を体系的に指導するプログラムを確立し、指導体制も整っています。ロボット術者/助手のcertificate取得にも積極的です。

内視鏡外科技術認定医取得をマニュアル化し、教室員の中でコンセプトを共有しています。
- 2023年6月現在、内視鏡技術認定医は大学に6人（胃3人、大腸3人）在籍しています。
- 教室員は順次ロボット助手/術者certificateを教室費で取得可能です。
また、研究に関しても非常にアクティブに行っています（研究のページをご参照ください）。

学位取得後は海外留学することを推奨しており、シンガポール大学、NIH、カロリンスカ医科大学への長年継続した留学制度を有しており、先方からの給与、教室の奨学金制度など、手厚い留学支援制度を確立しております。
また教室員のワークライフバランスの適正化にも本気で取り組んでおります。外科医の献身によって支えられていたシステムを根本から見直し、持続可能な労働環境作りを実践し、若手の先生達からも高評価です。
休息の確保に対する取り組み
- 休日回診をグループごとの完全当番制にしています。
- 「とりあえず全員集合」
- 「自分執刀の手術患者は自分で診る」
- 「来ないことの罪悪感」
などの概念は過去のものになっています。
- 1休日回診-1ポイントとし、10ポイントで平日の休み（有給）をとれるシステムにしています。
- 夜間・休日緊急手術を完全当番制とし、当番以外は呼ばれません。
- 有給を確実に使うシステムを構築しています。
- 月1回、平日の有給取得が「義務」となっています。
- 年計10日間の「夏休み＋冬休み」
- 産休・育休に合わせてのスタッフ配置
- 正規スタッフなら代替スタッフ雇用可（実質枠が一つ増える）システムの活用。
- 妊活中の当直免除
