Recommendations for Fukushima Recovery

At this symposium was held the international and Japanese experts to examine and validate the effects of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident on the health of local residents¡¤and to discuss recovery measures in the future¡¥ Fukushima Medical University presented the result of Fukushima Health Management Survey and its analysis¡¥ Many groups and experts including World Health Organization ¡ÊWHO¡Ë¡¤United Nation Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation ¡ÊUNSCEAR¡Ëand International Commission on Radiological Protection agreed that there would be little direct health effect from the radiation at this stage by the accident¡¤and there would be remote possibility in the future as well by reading the data¡¥

At the same time¡¤they recognized the fact that local residents still suffer from lingering anxieties about radiation and¡¤because of prolonged life in evacuation¡¤that some suffer from secondary health and mental effects including obesity and depression¡¥

On Sept¡¥11¡¤Yohei Sasakawa¡¤Chairman of Sasakawa Memorial Foundation and Shinichi Kikuchi¡¤President of FMU¡¤along with international experts¡¤met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in his official residence to give him a set of Recommendations formulated through the discussions at the two-day Symposium¡¥ The Recommendations include the strengthened support for health care and social welfare providers and professionals¡¤and strengthened support for the Survey that has been conducted by FMU¡¥ The Prime Minister respond that the government would utilized the Recommendations for healthier and safer lives of resident with the corporation of local government and FMU¡¥
